A bounce is a single-page visit on your site. In Analytics, a bounce is calculated specifically when a person goes on your site, as a single page visit and then exits without triggering any other requests to the Analytics server during that session.
What is Bounce Rate?
Bounce rate is single visit divided by all visits, or the percentage of all visits on your site in which users viewed only a single page and triggered.
These single-page sessions have a session duration of 0 seconds since there are no subsequent hits after the first one that would let Analytics calculate the length of the session. Learn more about how session duration is calculated.
Is a high bounce rate bad?
If your website has multiple pages that you want viewers to see, then, yes a high bounce rate is bad. Which means users are landing on a page and not exploring your site to see what you have to offer. However, if you have a website that is single page themed or built, then, no, a high bounce rate is not a bad thing. If you want viewers to browse through your site, then you want a low bounce rate, but if you want viewers to stay on a single page or home page, then a high bounce rate is okay.

No matter the circumstance, a low bounce rate is not bad. It simply means visitors are spending time searching your site or spending time on a single page. You then want to look at lead conversations, meaning if people are lingering on your website, but your profits aren't increasing or email list isn't growing, then you need to reevaluate your strategy and call to actions.
